It’s easy to forget about culverts or other drainage systems until they stop functioning properly.  By design, culverts provide a low-profile pathway for water to run under your driveway or under your street, or to flow out of areas of your property that have poor drainage.

But you notice when a culvert freezes up, because the water doesn’t flow where it’s supposed to.  In many cases, you can’t wait it to thaw, and there’s no way you can muscle it open.  Debris may also be frozen into the culvert, complicating your effort.  How can you get out of this jam and allow water to drain again?
