But experts said there are also ways you can protect your house from this storm. Jay Falk from Ice Dam Guys recommends removing as much snow as possible from around your gutters. “Snow on the roof that melts and runs down to the edge of the roof and refreezes where the edge of the roof is colder starts to build up ice,” Falk said. “And as the ice builds up it can prevent further water from running off and then that can back up and manifest as leaks inside the house.”
